Circulation Policy

Present a valid TCard to borrow materials.

Loan period 

Books: 

  • Undergraduates: 4 weeks, 3 renewals 
  • Graduates & staff: 6 weeks, 5 renewals 
  • Faculty: 6 weeks, 6 renewals 

*Books may be recalled after 2 weeks if requested by other borrowers. 

Periodicals: 

2 weeks, Renewable (student, faculty and staff)

Non-Print materials:

Please contact circulation staff or inquire at the Circulation Desk 

Materials for library use only:

  • Reference materials 
  • Loose leaf materials 
  • Rare books 
  • Folio materials size over 14" 
  • Brittle materials 
  • Gray Literature 
  • Uncatalogued items

To renew books 

You may renew a book in person or by telephone, or through "My Account" on 
U of T Libraries Home Page. 
 
For East Asian Library books, please call East Asian Library at 416-978-3300 for renewal information. 

To return materials 

Please return materials borrowed from the East Asian Library to the East Asian Library. 

Fines 

Regular loan: 

50 cents per day 
 

Recalled materials: 

$2.00 per day 
 

Reference:

50 cents per hour 
 

Multi-Media:

$5.00 per day 
 
You will be blocked from borrowing when your fine reaches $25 or when you have too many overdue books.

Services

Reference 

The East Asian Library has a comprehensive collection of East Asian bibliographies, indexes, biographies, encyclopaedias, dictionaries, year books and other reference tools. The Reference Librarian on duty will be happy to assist you in your research work. Computer searches of current and retrospective literature on the RLIN CJK database can be arranged with the Reference Staff. 

Tours and library instruction 

Orientation tours, sessions on library services, and consultations can be scheduled throughout the term. Inquire at the Reference Desk and Circulation Desk. 

Hold 

If the material you want is out on loan, you can place a hold on the item in person or via 
U of T Libraries Home Page. 

Inter-library loan 

Inter-library loans can be requested through the Resource 
Sharing Service at the U of T Libraries Home Page. Please ask our Reference Librarian on duty for information and assistance. 

Photocopier 

The card and coin copier is located behind the Circulation Offices. 
 
*The East Asian Library does not provide coin change service, please bring exact change to the copier. 

Microform readers and reader/printer 

Located in the East Asian Microform Room 8049L. 

CJK Computing Facilities 

The East Asian Library now has 21 networked PC workstations that support reading and writing CJK and networked printing for users.
