A Conversation with Lin King, translator of Taiwan Travelogue, in dialogue with Matthew Mucha, PhD candidate at the Centre for Comparative Literature and sessional lecturer at the University of Toronto.
Lin King is a featured guest at the 2025 Toronto International Festival of Authors. Her English translation of Taiwan Travelogue by Yang Shuang-Zi (Graywolf Press) received the 2024 National Book Award for Translated Literature and the 2024 Baifang Schell Book Prize for Outstanding Translated Literature in Chinese.
Based in Taipei and New York, King is a writer and translator whose fiction has appeared in One Story, Boston Review, and Joyland, among others. She has received the PEN/Robert J. Dau Short Story Prize for Emerging Writers. Her translations from Mandarin and Japanese into English include The Boy from Clearwater by Yu Pei-Yun and Zhou Jian-Xin (Levine Querido) and Cloud Labour by Sabrina Huang Li-Chun (Strangers Press). Her forthcoming work includes A Perfect Day to Put Your Head in the Oven by Lee Chia-Ying (Doubleday UK; Riverhead US).
