We are pleased to invite University of Toronto students to join an exclusive film screening of the documentary Jiro Dreams of Sushi (2011). A brief discussion will follow hosted by Professor Bob Thompson, the instructor of the Japan program, who will share his insights on both Japanese culture and his vision for the upcoming Japan program

About the Film: 

A documentary about the 85-year-old sushi master, Jiro Ono, as he pursues perfection at his renowned three-star Michelin restaurant, Sukiyabashi Jiro in Tokyo, Japan.  

Experience the dedication, passion, and philosophy that drive Jiro's meticulous sushi-making process. The documentary delves into the complexities of his relationships, particularly with his son Yoshikazu, who is destined to inherit the family business. Gain insights into the relentless pursuit of excellence in the culinary world and the profound meaning behind Jiro's dreams of sushi.  


This event is organized by the Cheng Yu Tung East Asian Library, and the University of Toronto Summer Abroad programs (Woodsworth College) to support the 2024 Japan program
