Last Friday, March 12, the East Asian Library was honoured to co-host Dr. Alexander Gardner, Director and Editor in Chief, and Catherine Tsuji, Editor of The Treasury of Lives to speak about new features available on the biographical encyclopedia's platform. A recording of the presentation with English subtitles is now available on our website for your viewing.
In this presentation, Dr. Gardner and Tsuji explain how to navigate the collection of biographies of notable scholars, masters, or leaders in traditional Himalayan and Inner Asian society and culture who are deceased and who were native to the region available on the website. Methods for locating data associated with each biography, including incarnation and monastic office lineages, social roles, religious traditions, a dynamic map, and multiple timeline visualizations, are also discussed. The presentation includes a further introduction of subscriber resources, which include custom map and timeline tools, data exports, syllabi, and an advanced search function.
This event was co-hosted by the Cheng Yu Tung East Asian Library and the Robert H.N. Ho Family Foundation Centre for Buddhist Studies at the University of Toronto, and the C.V. Starr East Asian Library at Columbia University.
