New e-resource: Area Studies: Japan

The Area Studies: Japan collection is now available to the U of T community.

The collection features a wide range of resources documenting the political, social, and cultural history of Japan from 1400 to the 20th century. The collection includes several series which include manuscripts by travellers on Japan, records from Western traders with Japan, and journals published in Japan throughout the 20th century. Key resources from the collection include medieval manuscripts, including an account by Marco Polo, logbook of William Adams who was the first foreigner to visit Japan, and printed articles of William Elliot Griffis who was an American educational reformer in Japan.

Of interest to scholars in Japanese history, geography, political science, and global affairs.
