New Resource - Records of the Far Eastern Commission, 1945-1952

Records of the Far Eastern Commission, 1945-1952 is a primary source collection which fully document all its activities as representative of the Allied Powers producing policies, principles, and criteria on the post-WWII governing and reconstruction of Japan according to the terms of surrender stipulated by the Potsdam Declaration.

Items originate from records of the Far Eastern Commission (FEC), records from other sources found in FEC files, and subject files used by the FEC. They include meeting minutes, agenda sheets, verbatim meeting transcripts, policy documents, attendance lists, reports, government memoranda, newspaper clippings, and statistical studies.

Topics covered include reparations and transfers of industrial equipment; atomic energy; democratic elections; education; and issues and arguments over the administration of Japan, both on an international level as well as within the US government.
