[Exhibition] Education for Troubled Times: The Life and Legacy of James G. Endicott (1898-1993)

James G. Endicott's exhibition is on February 7 to April 30, 2025 Monday to Friday, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.  Location: Cheng Yu Tung East Asian Library, on the 8th floor of Robarts Library (130 St. George Street)

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Discover the extraordinary life of James G. Endicott, a Canadian missionary, educator, and peace activist who shaped 20th-century China-Canada relations. This exhibition traces his transformative journey—from his missionary work in West China through war and revolution to his role as a leading voice for peace during the Cold War. Explore a captivating collection of artifacts, hear Endicott's own reflections, and experience the heartfelt memories of those who knew him best. Step into a story that bridges continents, conflicts, and cultures. 

The exhibition is hosted by the Cheng Yu Tung East Asian Library and sponsored by the Department of East Asian Studies.

Robarts Library Visitor Access

Members of the public wishing to view the exhibition can request access to Robarts Library by completing an online form at forms.gle/AaW1xeFd5ajbBz5JA at least 2 business days before your visit. Approved visitors will receive library email confirmations. Please bring the visit confirmation and a valid government-issued photo ID to the front desk at Robarts Library (130 St. George St).

During the opening ceremony, on February 7th Professor Judge will deliver a talk on “Missionary Beginnings: Sinology and Politics in the Lives of James Mellon Menzies and James G. Endicott.” Joan Judge is a Professor in the Department of History at York University in Toronto, Canada.
