The Cheng Yu Tung East Asian Library invites you to attend our closing ceremony of the “Line & Verse: An Exploration of Visual Arts and Poetry, between Canada and Taiwan” Exhibition.
Imagery lies at the core of both visual art and poetry. But the relationship between the two is a complex one that involves vocabulary, interpretation, metaphor, symbolism, formalism and transcendence.
The panel will discuss issues that arise from exploring not just the connection between poetry and art, but also the additional element which the curator, Carlina Chen, has interjected into the exhibition: the enhanced relationship of East to West in these two disciplines.
Moderator:
Professor Yael Brotman, Visual and Performing Arts, University of Toronto Scarborough and Artist
Speakers:
Professor Jenny Purtle, Department of History of Art/Graduate Department of Art, University of Toronto
Professor Patrick Mahon, Artist, Writer, and Professor of Visual Arts at Western University
Carlina Chen, Curator, “Line & Verse: A Visual Exploration of Poetry between Canada and Taiwan” Exhibition
Phoebe Ka-Ir Wang, Writer and Educator
