
Sold Out - The Cheng Yu Tung East Asian Library is thrilled to invite you to join this special event with globally acclaimed manga artist, Yukimura Makoto making his Canadian debut as this year's guest from Japan for the Toronto International Festival of Authors!
On September 22, 2023, Yukimura Makoto will discuss with Dr. Max Dionisio (from the Royal Ontario Museum) about the secret to his creativity, artistic process and the philosophies that bring his narratives to life. Join us in Vinland as we explore the popular genre of manga!

*Please note: A rush line will be available 15 minutes prior to the start of the event. Registrants are encouraged to arrive on time when doors open at 5:30 p.m., as any empty seats will be released to the rush line 15 minutes before the event starts.
*After the panel, there will be a 1-hour autograph session with Yukimura Makoto at the JFT Library from 7:30 PM to 8:30 PM. The signing session is exclusively available to registered participants; you must already be onsite for the event prior to the signing session. Please register for the signing at the same time. A limited number of registrants will be chosen randomly for the signing and notified at a later date. Please note that there is a limit of one autograph per attendee. About the artist:
Yukimura Makoto is a Japanese manga artist, widely recognized as the genius behind the science fiction series Planetes and the epic Vinland Saga. Yukimura Makoto has captivated fans around the world with his attention to historical accuracy, intricate battle scenes, compelling characters, and complex themes.
About the moderator:
Dr. Max Dionisio has a doctorate in Japanese Studies and attended library school at the University of Toronto’s Faculty of Information. He is currently the librarian of the Bishop White Committee Library of East Asia at the Royal Ontario Museum. Dr. Dionisio is also an adjunct professor at the University of Toronto’s Faculty of Information.
About the interpreter:
Jocelyne Allen is a Japanese translator & interpreter who has translated hundreds of short stories, novels, & manga, including the Eisner Award-winning Frankenstein by Junji Ito and the critically acclaimed Our Dreams at Dusk by Yuhki Kamatani. She has worked with Japan’s most celebrated authors & artists, including Sayaka Murata, Nagata Kabi, Kyoko Nakajima, and Asano Inio.
