On February 8, 2024, in partnership with the University's Family Care Office, the Cheng Yu Tung East Asian Library hosted a warm and engaging celebration for the Lunar New Year, marking the beginning of the Year of the Dragon for U of T members and their families. This annual celebration holds great significance across East Asian and Southeast Asian cultures, each with its unique traditions and customs.

The event provided a delightful afternoon filled with storytelling (featuring author Catherine Little of "Dragon's Dilemma" from Plumleaf Press, 2024), delicious Asian cuisine, interactive activities, and informative presentations by the university's undergraduate and graduate students from different departments. Attendees of all ages had the opportunity to immerse themselves in educational experiences, including learning about different ways of celebrating Lunar New Year, participating in Lunar New Year-themed coloring projects, crafting dragons, practicing calligraphy, and more. The festivities concluded with a charming dragon parade featuring creations crafted by attendees.

Central to the event's purpose was the promotion of inclusivity and appreciation for the diverse traditions associated with the Lunar New Year. By fostering cultural awareness and understanding, the celebration aimed to strengthen a sense of belonging among University of Toronto community members and their families.
