The history of Chinese overseas is well over 1000 years.
The rich documentation on these people cumulated over the
years now serves as permanent records of their profound
contributions to the social and economic developments of
their origins and residing places as well as to the
cultural exchange of the world. Being a part of Chinese
history, these documentation and information also help to
strengthen the link, communication, interaction and
cooperation among the Chinese, not to mention their
special value to the Chinese overseas themselves.With a

Hong Kong Literature Database is the first database on Hong
Kong literature. The Database is powered by various
searching functions. Full-text is available in a major part
of the database.

This website includes digitized rare books, statistics, and
the archive catalog about the Hong Kong catholic diocesan.

The International Collections database showcases some of
the visual materials held by the Special Collections
Division
that focus on collections beyond the scope of the Pacific
Northwest region. In this digital collection we feature
selected photographs and postcards from Asia and South
America including scenes from China, India, Indonesia, the
Philippines, and Japan, 1870s-1930s. Represented are
historical events, typical street scenes and native people
in traditional dress.

The Chinese collections of the Cambridge Digital Library now
comprise about half a million individual titles, including
monographs, reprinted materials such as manuscripts from
Dunhuang, Huizhou, etc., archival documents and epigraphical
rubbings, 200,000 Chinese e-books (donated by Premier Wan
Jiabao in 2009), 5,000 Chinese e-serials and 3,500 Chinese
microfilm reels. Over 400,000 titles are included in some
2,000 cong shu.

Over the past few years the National Diet Library in Tokyo
has digitized a large amount of prewar materials. Most are
in Japanese, and a few in Chinese. Many are available
online. It is certainly easier to enter, for example, “支那経
済” (Shina keizai, Chinese economy) in the search box than to
buy an airline ticket to Tokyo. An increasingly important
resource.

Church Missionary Society Periodicals features publications
from the Church Missionary Society (CMS), the South American
Missionary Society and the Church of England Zenana
Missionary Society (CEZMS) between 1804 and 2009.

The core of China: Culture and Society is the pamphlets
held in the Charles W. Wason Collection on East Asia
housed in the Carl A. Kroch Library of Cornell University.
Mostly in English and published between c. 1750 and 1929,
and amounting to around 1,200 items in 220 bound volumes,
these rare pamphlets form part of one of the deepest and
most extensive collections of literature on China and the
Chinese in the Western world and constitute a rich
resource for scholars and teachers in numerous
disciplines.The pamphlets have all been digitised in

China, America and the Pacific explores the cultural and
trading relationships that emerged between America, China
and the Pacific region between the 18th and early 20th
centuries. Manuscripts, rare printed sources, visual images,
objects and maps from international libraries and archives
document this fascinating history.
