The North China Herald is the prime printed source for the
history of the foreign presence in China from around 1850 to
1940s. No other newspaper existed over such an extended
period, and covers it in such incredible depth and variety.

The Oberlin Shansi Memorial Association, the Oberlin

collection that documents the activity of Oberlinians in
Asia from the 1880s to the 1950s. This teaching and
research collection contains materials from the Oberlin
Shansi Memorial Association Records and personal paper
collections, and it represents a small percentage of the
total amount of materials in the College Archives that
relate to the work of missionaries and Shansi
This database covers production, cast and crew, awards and
biographies, reviews and books, and many other information
of Chinese language movies made in mainland China, Hong
Kong, Taiwan, and other regions. Starting from 2006, the
Database also includes TV programmes. In total there are
16563 feature films, 509 TV programmes, 18453 unique
individules, and 1204 companies in the Database
(statistics).
Lat Pau, the longest running Chinese daily during pre-War
Singapore, was started by Mr See Ewe Lay in December 1881
and lasted 52 years before it finally ceased in March 1932.
Lat Pau is an invaluable historical source for research into
pre-war Singapore as well as Chinese overseas during that
period. Unfortunately the earliest issues of the newspaper
were lost and now the issues extant at the system cover only
the period August 19 1887 to March 31 1932.
This system consists of three major components: basic

is one of the most influential official newspapers and
journals published by the Kuomintang in cities where many
Overseas Chinese were residing. It is an invaluable
historical source for the study of modern Chinese revolution
